They result from the processing of a volcanic rock whose chemical composition consists mainly of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and aluminum oxide (Al2O3), in addition to other compounds. Perlites have water occluded in combination, which gives them the exceptional property of expanding when subjected to high temperatures. The expanded perlite, after delicate processes of crushing and classification, is transformed into a filtering aid whose particles, intertwined, can form an incompressible cake, with 80 – 90 % of hollow spaces, through which the liquids to be filtered will pass, retaining the solid elements in suspension, even those of microscopic size.

Diatomaceus

They come from very porous sedimentary rocks, consisting essentially of fossil siliceous shells of microoscopic unicellular algae and are used as filtering aids, due to their porosity and high adsorption capacity. Because of its high porosity, the diatomite extracted from the quarries contains between 60 and 70% water. After grinding, the mineral is dried, crushed and then purified to powder form. The Radifil diatomaceous earth is then calcined in furnaces at 800 to 1100 ºC. This calcination removes organic matter and agglomerates the diatoms, without altering their porosity. After cooling, the product is ground and then sorted in order to make precise granulometric cuts, responding to the various applications.

To ensure the stability of the finished product, the use of a membrane filter cartridge that guarantees integrity with reliable microbiological retention is essential. Other important characteristics are a low impact on the organoleptic quality of the product in aspects such as aroma, appearance and taste of the wine, a constant flow rate, a long service life and easy regeneration.

The BECO MEMBRAN PS Plus membrane filter cartridge helps to meet the most stringent microbiological stabilization requirements and is capable of performing the tasks necessary to achieve the highest levels of wine quality.

BECO MEMBRAN PS Plus filter cartridges are specially designed to meet microbiological safety and long durability in final filtration. BECO MEMBRAN PS Plus filter cartridges are manufactured with high quality polyethersulfone membranes. The membranes are protected by polyester support fleece and have a broad chemical compatibility. An inner and outer polypropylene support cartridge ensures maximum mechanical stability. Nylon end caps allow easy wetting of the membrane filter cartridges for integrity testing.
